"O" Level E.Maths Question
: Nov 2009 P1 Q13(a)
When d is 12 cm, the answer for t is given as 2 seconds.
My working is
V1/V2 =(d1/d2)^3 where V1 = volume of water when d1 = 12
cm^3
V2 = voulme of water when d2 = 24 cm^3
V1/V2= (12/24)^3
V1/V2= 1/8
V1=(1/8)V2
The container is filled with water after 8 seconds.
So, V2 ------
8s
V1= (1/8)V2 ------ ?s
(1/8) x 8 = 1s.
So, when the depth is 12 cm, t is 1 second.
Did I make a mistake or the given answer is incorrect ?
Thanks.
PS : SAP solution has used A1/A2 = (d1/d2)^2 to get the answer t
is 2 seconds.
I disagreed with the use of A1/A2 as water is poured into
the container, we should use V1/V2. So, the answer
should be t = 1 second. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks.
